Questions1. I think my strength is taking nature & Industrial photos. I could work on taking more time to check my focus & shutter speed to make sure the photos are not blurry.
2. I take away from this assignment that even though you take hundreds of photos you many only get a handful of really good photos. On my trip to Maui I took over 2,500 but only selected about 20 photos to put on my website. Questions1. These photos were taken of the past quarter. They cover a lot of nature and some cemetery photos. Each one uses different techniques and was taken for different projects .
2. Each photo needs to be edited. Some photos need a little more saturation and some need their exposure to be decreased or increased. Use Strong, Bold ColorsUse One Colour Against a Neutral BackgroundUse Subtle, Pastel Color Color TemperatureColor BalanceQuestions
The first technique for using color is using strong bold colours. Putting really strong colours next to each other makes them pop and stand out. If I was to take a photo with this technique I might line up some color pencils and zoom in on them.
Another way of using color in your photos is using neutral colors. Pastel colors are becoming very popular if photos today. If I were to take a photo using pastel colors I would take a photo of a flower and desaturate it in Lightroom. Using a bright color against a neutral background is used to draw you focus the the main object. This type of photo really makes you focus on that one object and not look anywhere else. If I took a photo like this I would take a picture of something sports related in a stadium but the background would be dim (somewhat like this Link). Letting one colour dominate gives the picture a general theme. Using red, blue, and yellow works the best for this type of photo. If I took this photo I would have something probably from a mexican culture. They use a lot of red and yellow colors. A color wheel helps you get the right color balance. Colours close to each other complement each other. If you want to make a picture that really pops use colors that are opposite on the color wheel. If I were to take a picture that really pops I would use colors like blue and orange. Color temperature is almost the same as white balance. Changing the color balance can make your photos more warm or cold. This can change the tone of your photo. I would take a portrait to show color balance. Making the photo more warm will change the skin tone. Color displays emotion and people will notice it. Using a lot of red colors makes the viewer think danger or bad. Blue and yellow relax people and represents peace. If I was to take a photo with emotional colors I would take a picture of blue or yellow flowers. Color is a compositional principle that displays emotion, culture, and the tone. Color should be considered a compositional principle because just like leading lines it draws you into the photo, and is what pictures are made of. All a picture is a collection of colored dots. Dandy Lion is a contemporary photographer in Chicago. He mainly takes portraits or photos of people. Florian Schulz is a professional nature photographer. Many of Dany’s are black and whiter or have one color that pops from the rest of the photo. Florian’s photos really show color. They are really saturated (almost too much) but really show the beauty of these landscapes. DepthThese picture were taken for depth (Deep, Shallow). When I was taking the deep one I made sure that there was no blurred out parts. For shallow one I wanted there to be as much blurriness as possible and for the leaf to be sharp. Shutter SpeedThese pictures were taken for shutter speed. The one on the left shows a long shutter speed. Using a long shutter speed makes the water blurry and smooth. The one on the right shows a fast shutter speed. It freezes the water in its place. Composition These photographs were taken for composition. The first one with the spider and its web I used the rule of thirds. For the middle one I use leading lines to draw you into the photo. On right I used thee rule of thirds & color. ConclusionWhen I was taking the photos with shutter speed I wanted the water to either be smooth or freeze it in its spot. It would have been helpful to have a tripod when taking the slow shutter speed ones so the rocks could be completely still but keep the water moving. Something that I could do better with these photos is make sure that my focus Is right and things aren't blurred. I think that steeping back and finding out what are the best parts around me and focusing on those before I just go to the first thing I see and start taking pictures would be helpful.
These pictures were long distance depth of field. When I took these I tried to make there to be as much depth that draws you into the picture. These pictures were shallow depth of field. When I took these photos I made it so they were really close up and get a lot of blur between the background and foreground.
I learned from this assignment that if you you use the wrong white balance it will really mess up your photo. Depending on the time of day and lighting situation I used different white balance settings to make the photo look correct. Situation 1 - SunlightTaken in Sunny conditions. Taken Midday. White balance setting in order. Sunny - Fluorescent - Cloudy. Situation 2 - Cool White (fluorescent)Taken in Fluorescent conditions. Taken around 3PM. White balance setting in order. Fluorescent - Incandescent- Shade. Situation 3 - FlashTaken with flash. Taken around 8PM. White balance setting in order. Flash - Fluorescent - Incandescent. Situation 4 - IncandescentTaken in Incandescent conditions. Taken around 3PM. White balance setting in order. Incandescent - Fluorescent- Shade. Situation 5 - CloudyTaken in Cloudy conditions. Taken around 3PM. White balance setting in order. Cloudy - Incandescent- Shade.
18 Turkish workers kidnapped.Manhunt continues in northern IllinoisMigrants' desperate quest to cross into Europe.Rule of ThirdsIn this photo I placed the flower to the left using the rule of thirds. I place the golf ball in the lower left corner which makes it more interesting than having it right in the middle. Leading LinesThe road and fences both guide you through the photo. All the lines in the photo make it interesting. FramingZooming in makes the football very bold. Making the golf ball large makes it the only focus. DiagonalsThe 3 flowers move you through the picture. Starting at the trunk you look from one corner to the other. Color The difference between the white and green of the leaf make it very interesting. All the different shades of green make the photo pop.
